Awatere Tussock Track
Nestled in the heart of the Awatere Valley, this trail will leave the walker with a sense of serenity and calm. Travelling through the awe-inspiring environments and beautiful scenes that unfold as you traverse the trail is nothing short of breath-taking. As the track winds its way through native covered hills, meanders alongside creeks and strikes out into the Awatere back country.
Spanning over three days for the tramper, this unguided walk will allow you to fully appreciate the rugged beauty of the Awatere Valley. Spending your first night in a picturesque farmers cottage, the first day on the track takes you along rolling hills, through grazing land towards a purpose built hut.
Striking out on the second day, you will traverse along ridge-lines and saddles. The views of the Ure and Clarence valleys are picture perfect, begging to be captured by camera.
The third day brings you back along the interior of the property, with a walk past an old musterers hut and through a beautiful native reserve; following an easy walk back to the cottage where the track began.
This track is open from mid November to end of April and requires walkers to have a good level of fitness. Bookings are required. The costs and contact information can be found on the Awatere Tussock Track's Website.
